This weeks microbiome definition:

DYSBIOSIS

Dysbiosis is an imbalance in microbial populations characterized by reduced diversity, keystone species (species with disproportionate impact on ecosystem function relative to their abundance) loss, and/or pathobiont (pathogen) expansion.

What does that me? In a dysbiotic microbiome there are not many different types of microbes, there are not many of the foundational microbes that produce the substances we need to thrive in health, and there may be pathogens starting to grow and take over residence since the health building microbes are missing.

Dysbiosis is the root cause of most gut-related dysfunction. It must be addressed before symptom-chasing.

Dysbiosis results in body wide symptoms and is the root of all health complaints from joint pain to Alzheimers and diabetes.

What causes dysbiosis?

Antibiotics

Medications and some medical treatments

Glyphosate (pesticide first pate ted as an antibiotic)

Stress

Limited diversity in the diet

Processed foods

Emotional Trama

Heavy physical training

and the list goes on and on
