Upside-Down Nourishment This week's microbiome definition: FUNCTIONAL REDUNDANCY Functional redundancy in the microbiome means that multiple bacterial species are capable of performing the same metabolic function. Functional redundancy is a marker of ecosystem stability and explains why function matters more than species counts. What does that mean for you? We want to have many bacterial species that produce that same metabolic function so that if we take a hit such as take antibiotics, eat unhealthy food, or drink alcohol we do not get completely wiped out. When we have a frail microbiome without multiple species that do the same thing we are unable to withstand any strain on our constitution whatsoever without falling apart and getting ill. It's not just about taking a probiotic to be healthy. We need to create a diverse microbiome so we can be resilient to anything that challenges us. If you are interested in building a diverse and resilient microbiome to eliminate you pain and build a long and enjoyable life consider investing in yourself and joining me for Upside-Down Nourishment or returning to Upside-Down Nourishment personalized programs, please fill out this form to see if we might be a good fit to work together. Do not let distance stop you! I work with clients all over the world via Zoom! REMEMBER, self care is health care! If you don't care for yourself you won't be able to care for anyone else. Have a beautiful day! Lisa |
